Seventeen-year-old Owen is uprooted when his dad gets a job in New England. There is something depressing about the general dilapidation of the sparsely laid homes, the rancorous forests, and the rutted roads. Owen is shocked to find their new house isn't a house at all, but a barn with rooms attached. With the death of his mother still clinging to his bones, Owen struggles to find any kind of hope in these strange new surroundings.
